What ISO 9001 asks for
Clause 7.2 (Competence) of ISO 9001:2015 broadly asks an organisation to:
- decide what competence is needed for people whose work affects quality;
- make sure those people are competent, through education, training or experience;
- where they aren't yet, take action to close the gap and check that the action worked;
- keep documented information as evidence of competence.
A competency matrix is one of the most common ways to show all four in one place. The challenge is keeping it current between audits.
How SkillsLedger maps to it
| Requirement | In SkillsLedger |
|---|---|
| Determine necessary competence | Skill groups per team or role, each with the skills and certifications it needs and your own rating levels. |
| Ensure people are competent | Self-ratings confirmed by line managers, plus certifications with expiry dates and links to evidence. |
| Act on gaps and check effectiveness | Objectives with targets and dates that update live as ratings change; weakest skills by department. |
| Retain documented information | ISO-format competency reports for a team or individual, exported to PDF, plus an audit log of changes. |
SkillsLedger helps you keep and present competence evidence. Certification to ISO 9001 depends on your whole quality management system and your certification body's assessment.
